THE MESSAGE Brief Encounters Whether The Tasting Panel goes to the brand execs or the brands call us, there is an abundance of news to report, from the latest releases to behind-the-scenes experiences with some of the world's most influential importers, winemakers, distillers . . . well, you name it. We may not have enough pages in each issue to devote as much attention as we would like to each person whose path we cross, but please note that if it's in the publication, we deem it noteworthy. —Meridith May, Publisher & Editorial Director Actor Kellan Lutz delivers the new Mumm Grand Cordon to New York by speedboat. PHOTO COURTESY OF MAISON MUMM 14  /  the tasting panel  /  july 2016 Champagne Mumm Reveals Its Revolutionary New Bottle in NYC M aison Mumm officially unveiled its revolutionary new bottle design for Mumm Grand Cordon at a celebration at Lightbox in New York City. Designed by famed British designer Ross Lovegrove, the new bottle forgoes any labels and instead indents Mumm's iconic red sash and emblem into the body of the bottle, resulting in an avant- garde and forward-thinking silhouette. As one of the most pioneering Champagne houses in France, Mumm presented the new bottle design to American audiences in one of the most non-traditional ways possible. Guests were invited to the celebration party, but unfortunately they were told that the new Mumm champagne bottle had yet to arrive on-site. As the festivities proceeded without Champagne, the walls of the venue lit up to show actor Kellan Lutz in New York City speaking with Mumm Cellar Master Didier Mariotti in Reims, France, about the delivery issue. As guests watched, Lutz and Mariotti raced against time to deliver the new bottle from France to the U.S. via private jet, motorcycle, speedboat and sports car, along with adrenaline- filled scenes of skydiving and parkour. In the final segment, as Lutz sped on a motorcycle with the new bottle to the Lightbox venue where the party was happening, the film's ending coincided with Lutz's real-life entrance into the celebra- tory party via the motorcycle, in what became the most "Daring Delivery" of a Champagne bottle to the U.S. Mumm is imported by Pernod Ricard USA.
