Fernet-Branca (SRP $29.99), the world's most popular amaro, has something very special to offer the world. Since 1845, the Branca family has passed its secret formula from father to son for six generations. Although the exact recipe is kept under lock and key, we do know it contains 27 ingredients from four continents, includ- ing aloe from South Africa, rhubarb from China, gentian from France, galingale from India and chamomile from Italy. Aged for at least one year in oak barrels, the amaro also features the same superior quality of flowers, roots, extracts, teas and spices it has chosen for over 170 years. —Emily Coleman CATEGORY REPORT july 2016  /  the tasting panel  /  105 most to family has Best-Kept Secret with Fernet-Branca TA S T I N G N O T E S Sassafras, ginger and anise are notable noseables—the sensation in the mouth from first sip is zippy and tingling, with rich tones of black tea, root beer fizz, mountain brush and tobacco. The finish is dry and paints the tongue with bitter- sweet chocolate and mint. —M. M. Why we like Fernet-Branca for summer: It will liven up a soda or dessert cocktail— a Fernet-Branca float will upgrade your summer tenfold. INFINIUM SPIRITS M I S C H I E V O U S M A R G A R I TA 1 oz. Bauchant Orange Cognac Liqueur 1½ oz. Tequila Chamucos Reposado ¾ oz. freshly squeezed lime juice Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker full of ice. Shake well and strain it into a glass on the rocks. TA S T I N G N O T E S Honey-dipped orange slices are notably perfumed by white floral tones of magnolia—what a lovely scent! The petals become more prominent and exotic on the palate—plumeria and jasmine take a place by butterscotch, tangerine and sweet orange zest. The texture is luxurious, and there's no cloying finish. —M. M. Why we like Bauchant Orange Liqueur for summer: One word: Margaritas! PALM BAY INTERNATIONAL Ask anyone for their orange liqueur of choice when it comes to a top shelf Margarita, and usually a debate will ensue. Here at The Tasting Panel, Bauchant Orange Liqueur (SRP $22.99) is always a top shelf top contender. Bauchant—one of the original liqueurs brought into the U.S. during the 1970s— comes from Maison Roullet- Fransac, a luxury Cognac, liqueur and eau-de-vie producer that's been around since 1838. Bauchant uses three differ- ent orange varieties—Mandarin, Tangerine and Andalusian—to up the orange complexity in its foundation, a blend of VS and VSOP Cognac. — Jessie Birschbach At the Top of the Top Shelf with Bauchant Orange Liqueur
