FarMers insurance: thank a MiLLion teachers Grants Farmers Insurance knows that most every teacher spends money out of their own pocket for basic classroom supplies and programs like the National Board Certification. The Thank a Million Teachers initiative wants to help. Throughout 2014, Farmers Insurance is awarding grants of up to $2,500 each to teachers across America that can be put towards classroom supplies or National Board Certification. Apply online by October 30, 2014, at www.thankamillionteachers.com/ submit-a-proposal. 2015 nationaL kind teacher oF the Year The National Kind Teacher Award Program honors pre K-12 classroom teachers who include humane lessons in the curriculum or inspire students to act on behalf of animals in an effective, innovative manner. The Humane Society of the United States and its affiliates have given this award annually since 1981, recognizing outstanding teachers who consistently incorporate humane education into the curriculum and/or motivate students to get involved in community service for animals. Apply online by February 15, 2015, at www. humanesociety.org/parents_educators/award/ national_kind_teacher_award.html. schooL in-serVice traininG Grants For Grades 9-12 teachers The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is offering $4,000 School In-Service Training Grants for 9th-12th grade teachers to provide financial assistance to secondary schools for in-service education in mathematics. Costs may include honoraria and expenses for consultants, materials, substitute time, and conference or workshop registrations. No funds may be used for staff travel or equipment. Only schools with at least one current full individual or e-members of NCTM are eligible to apply for this grant. No school may receive more than one award administered by the Mathematics Education Trust in the same academic year. Past recipients of this grant are not eligible to reapply. Activities are to be completed between September 1, 2015, and August 31, 2016. While this grant does not fund the purchase of technology, proposals including professional development involving the use of technology to enhance student learning are encouraged.
