Over 250 new educators attended the event, which provided free classroom supplies and professional development workshops to help teachers get their school year off to a great start. Kristy Clarke, a CTE teacher at Apollo High School in the Culinary and Hospitality department, is a brand new teacher and Association member. "Like a lot of new teachers, I have nothing in my classroom and there isn't a lot of money to get my class set up. So, it's nice that there is an organization like AEA that supports teachers and helps us get a positive start to a brand new year." The day started in the morning with workshops covering classroom management, student loan forgiveness, and legal advice. Afterwards, attendees took part in the bazaar in the AEA Headquarters' parking lot, which was filled with rows of tables full of classroom supplies. The bazaar had a great party atmosphere with a DJ playing music and AEA staff grilling hot dogs. Superintendent candidate David Garcia joined the festivities and, along with his two daughters, danced with a group doing the electric slide. AEA eSWAG had been collecting supplies for the bazaar since the spring. Donations came in from all over the state. Retired and veteran teachers brought in books, wall decorations, workbooks, paper, pencils, markers, and more. Sly Glover, a Copper Canyon High School teacher, says he saved at least $80 in classroom supplies, including construction paper and writing materials. "Anything free helps out because teachers don't get a lot of supplies these days due to budget cuts." The first day teaching in a classroom can AEA eSWAG Bazaar Gives New Educators Great Start
