AEA Advocate x Special Election Edition 2014 41 AROUND AEA with candidates and hear from them directly about their views on education issues as well as share stories with legislators about the impact of budget cuts in the classroom. A President's Panel was held on the last day of the Institute. This panel included AEA President Andrew Morrill, Amphitheater EA President John Fife, Phoenix Union Classified EA President Tom Oviatt, and Deer Valley EA President Maria Leyva. Members asked these leaders their perspective on questions from membership retention and teacher evaluations to education support professionals as valued partners. This was Amphitheater Education Association member Kimberly Burrow's first leadership conference with AEA and she appreciated the opportunity to hear from other local leaders and have the time to collaborate and plan for the upcoming year. "It was good to hear that others share our same struggles; that each district is facing similar obstacles. Coming here I realize that we can support each other and seeing what others are doing inspires me that we can do the same in our local, especially with elections." 2 AEA Summer Institute, cont. from page 17 Creighton EA (left) and Sierra Vista CTA (below) members creating organizing and membership plans.
