36 Special Election Edition 2014 x AEA Advocate WE ARE AEA! • WE ARE AEA! • WE ARE AEA! • WE ARE AEA! AEA is pleased to have three of our own selected to serve as NEA Great Public Schools (GPS) Network facilitators. The NEA GPS Network is an online forum for teachers to collaborate and share ideas about student learning and the teaching profession. There are over 50 different forums on a variety of topics and membership to the forums is free. Congratulations to Lisa Buccigrosse, Adrienne Henderson-Cole, and Patricia Roach on being selected as facilitators for this project. Lisa Buccigrosse, a teacher and Murphy EA member in the Pendergast school district has been chosen to facilitate a new forum for ELL educators through the NEA GPS Network. According to her profile, Buccigrosse has been an educator in a variety of capacities (teacher, professor, administrator, instructional coach, and mentor) since 2001 at both the elementary (K-8) and higher education levels. She has both online and face-to-face teaching experiences as well as course development and curriculum development for both modalities of instructing and learning. Her areas of certification and expertise are Elementary Education, Administration, English as a Second Language Education, Bilingual Education (Spanish), and Gifted Education. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early and Middle Childhood – English as a New Language. For fun, Lisa enjoys traveling. She has traveled to 26 foreign countries to expand her cultural awareness and understanding. Additionally, she enjoys taking care of her 16 adopted rescue animals. Adrienne Henderson-Cole is president of the Littleton Education Association, is a teacher at Quentin Elementary School, and she is facilitating the Teacher Evaluation groups on the NEA GPS Network. She is National Board Certified and has taught and trained elementary school teachers in Maryland and Arizona for the past 25 years. She has had extensive training in the implementation of the Elements of Effective Instruction, and has done a great deal of work supporting teachers with the implementation of Common Core State Standards (CCSS)—experiencing first-hand their joy and struggles as they attempt to incorporate the new reading and math CCSS into their classrooms. Patricia Roach is a Flagstaff EA member and works as an RTI Specialist at Cromer Elementary School. She handles two groups, Classroom Management and Common Core and Special Education. According to her profile she supports teachers in grades 3, 4, and 5 as they identify students needing support in math and language literacy. She facilitates collaborative teams of teachers, serves as an instructional coach, and works with principals to move the district forward in efforts to improve instructional practice. She is an officer in the Flagstaff EA, serving as its Teachers' Rights Chairperson for 15 years, and has previously served as secretary and vice-president. She is a member of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) as well as Learning Forward (professional development). Arizona is very fortunate to have these three educators representing AEA and working with other educators across the country on these topics. They are creative, engaged, and amazing leaders.
