THE NEW INTERVIEW: LIVE AND ONLINE Tips for a Successful Live Video Interview  Just as many aspects of our lives have taken on their own digital form, video interviewing is becoming more commonplace in the hiring process. Many brands are increasingly leveraging tools like Skype and other digital interviewing platforms, such as BevForce InSight, to make hiring decisions for their team. If you're a little camera-shy, technologically-challenged or just new to digital interviewing in general, here are some important tips to help you through the process: • Dress professionally, as you would for a live in-person interview. • Make sure you have thoroughly prepared for the interview, including researching the company and going over the job description a few times. • Log-in to the digital interview early—you never want to have your interviewer waiting for you. • Choose a quiet area where there is not a lot of foot traffic/distractions. Turn off phone ringers, cell phones, email pop-ups, close other programs in the background, etc., and keep any pets/children in another room. • Ensure the camera "background" is presentable/professional, like a solid wall. Do not have a window behind you; it will make it difficult for you to appear clear on camera. • If you are using an external camera/mic, make sure it is plugged in and working perfectly. Also, be sure to test it with a friend beforehand. • The important thing to remember is to treat a video interview just as you would in-person interview. And while the technology may occasionally have its glitches, it sure beats getting stuck in traffic! 14  /  the tasting panel  /  november 2013 TP1113_001-33.indd 14 10/24/13 8:46 AM
