Although an ECA only affects K-12 districts and employees, the WEA will also be asking Governor Mead and the Legislature to provide funding for community college salary increases. The 2014 Budget Session of the Wyoming Legislature begins February 10, 2014. Currently, the Governor is preparing his budget to propose to the Legislature. WEA is asking the Governor to include an ECA in his budget. During the months leading up to the session, several legislative committees will also be making recommendations about the state's budget. The Joint Education Committee looks at how inflation impacts four cost areas in education funding: certified staff salaries, classified staff salaries, energy costs, and educational materials. The JEC then forwards a recommendation to the Joint Appropriations Committee, which then must take final action before it can move to the entire Legislature. WEA will be working with legislators at all stages of the process to encourage the adoption of an ECA. "I will always come here for loans!"
