This Road Leads To A GREAT PARTNERSHIP The WEA is pleased to announce the beginning of an exciting new partnership with the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) and its Safety and Training division. According to Sgt. Duane Ellis of the WHP's Safety and Training division, "The Wyoming Highway Patrol is dedicated to helping our educators in Wyoming succeed, and this partnership now gives them another avenue to effectively reach Wyoming students and their families with quality information and presentations from law enforcement." Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers from around the state will be able to offer WEA members a slew of educational opportunities in their classrooms and worksites. The troopers have the ability to share real-life stories from the road, especially unfortunate circumstances regarding fatal vehicle crashes and how they could have been avoided. The WHP can provide classes and trainings on topics ranging from early childhood development and proper vehicle child restraints, to using their "seatbelt convincer" in math classes to help gauge force, as well as teaching about alcohol and drugs and how they not only impair driving abilities, but also impair good life decisions. In addition, troopers from the WHP can offer bus safety presentations, in addition to partnering with WEA on our presentations regarding child abduction prevention in Wyoming. With enough notice, the WEA will work with the WHP to create custom presentations to fit any local's needs, as well. "Having come from the Wyoming Department of Transportation, and working with the Wyoming Highway Patrol on many different safety topics, the partnership really made sense to me," said WEA Communications Director Coleen Haines. WEA is looking forward to our members utilizing this new collaboration. For questions and requests, please contact WEA Communications Director Coleen Haines at chaines@ nea.org.
