committed to lifting up empowered student voices. A survey of students has shown that they are frustrated with high turnover rates for teachers and coaches. They often feel a sense of abandonment when teachers leave to go to another district and they want administrators to create a supportive, positive working environment for all district employees. Also, students want more challenging curriculum and teaching practices. They are asking for more experiential learning, AP courses, and cultural enrichment. They would also like the school districts to support high school graduates in becoming teachers, so they may return to the Wind River Reservation and contribute to the future success of their communities. The most pressing issue agreed upon by all who participated in the community dialogue is the need to bring training on trauma-informed classrooms and resources to support educators in addressing the needs of students who often live with trauma, poverty, and inadequate services for their needs. WEA is leading the way forward in partnership with school districts and community groups. Our members are working to be the change they wish to see locally.
