It will be a packed day and lunch is included. For more information, contact Central/Northeast UniServ Director Judy Trohkimoinen. ESSA Trainings In December of 2015, No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was replaced by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA allows for state and district policy agendas to more eff ectively combat the eff ects of poverty and inequality in our public schools. ESSA is also good news for educators and the communities as it gives them more say in their schools and a seat at the table to determine what really matters to student success. A few of the areas where educators and/or communities have a voice are; professional development for educators, parent/family engagement, district plans, school safety, and school improvement plans. WEA has partnered with locals and districts throughout Wyoming in order to assist with the implementation of ESSA. Both the Northwest and the Southwest Regions have applied for and received grants from the National Education Association (NEA) to assist our locals with ESSA education and implementation. The Northeast Region will be off ering an ESSA presentation during their Northeast retreat in Gillette on Saturday, January 26, 2019. WEA can assist in providing this training for your local, district (including the school board members), or your community. Ideally, your local can provide this training for your local members, the district and the community so that the collaboration process can be put into place from the very beginning. The NEA will be off ering additional grants soon to assist locals with the education of their communities regarding ESSA. Information will be disseminated to members as it is made available to WEA. Northwest WYOrganing Leadership Retreat The Northwest Region has been organizing through a series of WYOrganizing trainings funded through an NEA grant throughout the past year. Members are learning more about issues aff ecting the classroom, education policy, and building leadership for the years to come. On January 11-12, at the Red Ranch Retreat in Thermopolis, the group will meet again to do more leadership development, embark on visionary planning, and to prepare for spring action.
