H O T E L A R T E M I S | P E R S P E C T I V E 8 9 A coolly visual movie shooting in LA, for LA? With a great cast and a fascinating up-and-coming writer/director? It's a unicorn—count me in! There were the standard catches—small budget, tight schedule, and they wanted me to meet the director in just a few days. No time to do my normal deep-dive prep, and I was in the middle of designing intense superhero movie reshoots, but taking a deep breath I pulled together a quick reference deck, with the afterhours help of a great production assistant. The meeting was in a super-noisy café, and I could only make out two of every three words the director, Drew Pearce, was saying, but it was clear my reference wasn't actually describing the world A.
