1 4 P E R S P E C T I V E | S E P T E M B E R / O C T O B E R 2 0 1 8 N E W S 16 th Annual Design Showcase West B Y D A V I D M O R O N G , E D I T O R On Saturday, June 2, seventy-eight graduating designers representing twenty of the finest design programs in the country gathered at the Freud Playhouse at UCLA for the annual showcase of their work. Design Showcase West, created by UCLA TFT, is the only national entertainment design showcase on the West Coast featuring the work of students graduating from the nation's top university design programs, including UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television; California State University, Long Beach; Northwestern University; Purdue University; San Diego State University; Southern Methodist University; University of California, Davis; University of Cincinnati; University of Georgia; University of Missouri—Kansas City; University of Texas at Austin; University of Washington and Yale University. Exhibits range from costume to scenic, sound, lighting and Production Design. The Saturday-morning opening of the event is an invitiation-only preview where studio executives, film and television producers, theater artistic directors and professional designers attend to meet the industry's new talent. The morning is topped off with a luncheon featuring a keynote speaker. Paul Tazewell, the Tony Award-winning costume designer of Hamilton, was this year's guest speaker. A.
