The night prior to filming, wall graphics arrived but color runs didn't match. Fortunately, the vendor reprinted overnight and graphic installation finished just as the director arrived. From Drinks to Diamonds A high-end Shanghai jewelry store scene introduces Nick Young's cousin Astrid. Because of humidity and unpredictable weather, every jewelry store scouted opened directly to a mall. The shops did not look exclusive on camera. After weeks scouting hotels for penthouses, permission was received to explore the K.L. St. Regis. While touring we passed the Astor Bar, and I realized it could work perfectly. After hoops to get filming permission, existing furniture was cleared, cabinetry and display cases added, and the emptied wine cellar become a velvet- shelved private jewel vault! Large art panels were fabricated with metallic paints and floated gold leaf. The unit production manager's family owned Southeast Asian jeweler—Mouwad. The company agreed to provide $2.5 million of real jewelry for close work, with fake jewels beyond. Mouwad of course, generously provided guards for that set! Like a River Flows… Jon loved the wedding concept of water and travelers palms. We discussed non- traditional seating and a meadow-like feel, and capitalizing on the country's slogan, "Let's make Singapore our Garden," to create an indoor Eden. With a quick sketch for Jon, the plan began. A classic Chinese moon gate was sculpted, flanked by intricate eight-foot bamboo fans. Artisans fabricated lanterns incorporating illustrations and calligraphic blessings of fertility, prosperity and happiness—each requiring two to three weeks to complete.
