At its September 7, 2016 meeting, the Board of Directors formally approved funds for the redesign of the Art Directors Guild website, the culmination of years of research, planning and development at the Guild's Publications & Media Committee. Technologically, the website was falling behind users' expectations of responsive design as a growing number visited on mobile devices. With more members working out of town, there was an increasing need for access to information outside of regular office hours. Visually, the site was coming up short in reflecting the enormous talent of Guild members and was missing the interconnectivity found on sites like IMDb. To shepherd the project, President Nelson Coates created the ADG Website Redesign Committee comprised of two representatives from each of the four crafts. The first committee meeting was held on December 8, 2016—the immediate task at hand, to identify creative agencies whose work the committee admired. Within two months, the committee assembled a short list of award- winning design firms.
