After shooting on location in Charleston, SC, for ABC's pilot Salvage, CD Caroline B. Marx confirms that the beautiful red and orange sunsets on the South Carolina license plates really do occur all the time! Teaming with the incredibly creative writer/creator/showrun- ner Donald Todd, it was Marx's second pilot with the gifted direc- tor Uta Briesewitz. The ensemble cast included Toby Kebbell, Jim Belushi, Will Patton, and Charity Wakefield. Charleston may well be a beautiful place to shoot with some amazing locations, but the big- gest challenge was the off-season weather—trying to pretend it was a summer in sunny Florida filled with hot humid days, when the actual daily temperatures were unusually cold, sometimes to 40°! Charity Wakefield at Folly Beach, SC CD Debra McGuire recently designed the untitled Bobby Bowmen pilot, a half-hour hybrid family comedy for ABC. Set in Raleigh, NC, it's a unique story about a family of four children, a creative designer Mom, and an eccentric scientist Dad with mental illness. McGuire enjoyed designing these characters because they are so atypical, although she says the network didn't let her go quite as far as she intended. McGuire says, "Bowman's brilliant writing is filled with humor, honesty, and issues never really dealt with on network television. He inspired the creative team with his passion, making it contagious." Directed by Ian Fitzgibbon, the cast includes Lilla Crawford, Brooke Elliott, and Johnny Sneed.
