23 Professional Development/Trainings Are Available to You! Poverty Simulation Apply to be part of the WEALTH of Knowledge Teaching & Learning Did you know that WEA can provide you with a variety of professional trainings to suit members' particular interests and needs? See the many examples in the WEA Professional Development brochure at: wyoea.org/teaching- learning/, where you can also find other teaching and learning resources available to you! To schedule a training for your Local or Region, contact your Region's UniServ Director (contact information available at wyoea.org/uniserv/); WEA Government Relations Director Tammy Schroeder, tschroeder@wyoea.org; or WEA Professional Issues Director Kathy Scheurman, kscheurman@wyoea.org. It is difficult for those of us who have enough to truly understand the situations that families living in poverty experience every day—the decisions they have to make, and the fears and frustrations they feel. That is why we are inviting you to walk a mile in the shoes of those facing poverty by participating in a Poverty Simulation. This simulation will provide you with the opportunity to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget, or the role of a staff person from an organization or agency (including a school) serving such families. The Poverty Simulation allows participants to "experience" some of the frustrations & feelings, obstacles, and constraints of living with limited resources while trying to meet the everyday needs of work and family. For more detailed information or to schedule a Poverty Sim in your school or district, please contact WEA Professional Issues Director Kathy Scheurman at kscheurman@wyoea.org. Do you have an exceptional skill or specialized knowledge that you could share with other WEA members? WEA is interested in forming a training cadre of talented members to serve as a WEALTH of Knowledge: WEA, Let our Trainers Help. Please consider applying to be part of a network who could be called upon to train an individual member, members of a Local or a Region, or at a WEA statewide gathering. Apply now at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/WEAtrainers. Spotlight Training: Political Action (Government Relations) • How to Effectively Communicate with Legislators and other Elected Officials • Legislative Contact Team Training—Learn how to serve as a regular contact for your local legislators • Legislative Issues—Find out more about the current hot topics in the Wyoming Legislature • How to Organize and Utilize Political Volunteers • Candidate Interview Team Training—How to interview candidates and make recommendations regarding WEA-PACE endorsements during elections years
