Winter 2017 | wyoea.org 10 Three members of this year's East-West Leadership Program visited WEA to learn about educational leadership in Wyoming. Pooja Chowdhary from New Delhi, Seiko Watanabe from Japan, and Melody Agbisit from Norfolk, Virginia, visited with me about education and leadership. Pooja is a senior communication officer with the New Delhi branch of the World-Wide Fund for Nature. Seiko Watanabe is on staff with the government of Shizuoka Prefecture in Shizuoka, Japan. Melody Agbisit is the educational program and services coordinator of the Women's Center at Tidewater Community College and the director of operations for the Professionals Under Forty Network. As part of their leadership program, they were assigned to visit Wyoming for their field experience. A friend of mine at NEA reached out to me to see if I could meet with them as one of the educational leaders in Wyoming. It was great to meet and talk with these three amazing leaders who were truly interested in learning about our state. It was very rewarding to share my leadership experiences with them and learn about theirs. We spent time talking about our education system and leadership opportunities that I have had through my WEA membership. I was able to drive them around Cheyenne and helped them get a meeting with Governor Mead. Pooja even got to experience her first snow. It is always wonderful when we can showcase our great state. To learn more about the East-West Center, please go to www.eastwestcenter.org. East-West Leadership Visits WEA Arch Coal needs your help in honoring our state's best classroom teachers, K-12. Take a moment to tell us about a favorite, active teacher who deserves special recognition. Complete the nomination form at www.archteacherawards.com. Nominated teachers who complete the application form are judged by a blue-ribbon panel of peers and former recipients. Ultimately, ten teachers are selected, and each receives a personal $3,500 cash award from Arch Coal. Kathy Vetter, WEA President, kvetter@wyoea.org
