Carteris triumphed in a crowded playing eld, receiving more than percent of the vote in a ve-way race. n the election for secretary-treasurer, Austin was elected to the position with 54 percent in a three-way contest. Carteris and Austin began their two-year terms immediately following the election. allots for the election of the national ofcers were mailed to approximately , eligible voters on uly , , and , were returned by Aug. , for a return of . percent. President Gabrielle Carteris said, 'm deeply humbled that our members have entrusted me with the privilege and honor of continuing to lead our great union. GABRIELLE CARTERIS JANE AUSTIN T he SAG-AFTRA family lost a beloved member Sept. 9, when National Vice President, New ork, Mike odge unexpectedly passed away. odge, who was , had ust recently been re-elected to head up the ew ork ocal ofce, a seat he held since , in addition to his role as national VP. A SAG- AFTRA National Board member since , he was instrumental in umpstarting the effort that ultimately led to the merging of SAG and AFTRA in . Deeply respected by his peers, odge had and long and impressive career as a Broadway, T, lm and commercial actor. "Mike's spirit shone brightly, and he was greatly admired by those he worked with, whether in the union's boardroom or on set. e will be remembered for his professionalism, conviction and remarkable strength of purpose, said SAG- AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. is perseverance and ability to rally members helped make merger possible, and in that regard, SAG-AFTRA stands as a memorial to his accomplishments, leadership of the ew ork ocal and everything he believed in."
