Back-to-School 2017 | wyoea.org 8 sized figures, made out of clay, are all different. It was a special moment to see the warrior that was representing an archer, as my son participates in archery. When we were done visiting the warriors, we visited the second school of our visit. This school was a magnet high school for those students who were interested in becoming chefs. This school also housed most of their students. The students who attend this school are learning the culinary arts, and many have received gold medals at competitions. After watching some of the instructors ply their trade, I can see that. The next morning we visited a local art museum and saw many different art styles. We even practiced calligraphy. We learned about specific art styles in China and then had an opportunity to purchase some of the artwork of students at a nearby university. When we were finished at the museum, we were off to the airport and back to Beijing. This would be our last night in China. The next morning, we were back at the airport, saying our goodbyes to new friends and to China. Many friendships and connections were made during our trip. Some of them are more like acquaintances, but others will be collaborative and our students pen pals. I am very thankful for the opportunity to go on this trip. The NEA Foundation made every one of us feel welcome and part of the group. With their help I have a different idea about global education. It was easy to see and understand that even though countries may have differences, the teachers and parents want the same thing—to have their children lead better lives than they do.
