1 It is a new school year, and I want to thank you for being a public education professional. We all share a strong commitment to our students and their academic success. The work you do to ensure every student receives the quality education they deserve is to be commended. As your professional association, we want to make sure every new employee feels welcome, supported, and encouraged as they start this school year. So if you have a new employee at your worksite, stop by and welcome them to the profession and invite them to be a part of our Education Association. A strong Wyoming Education Association gives us the collective voice to work on issues that affect public education. When we stand together, we are more effective in our advocacy for students and public education. As professionals, we understand that ensuring a quality education for every student in Wyoming requires the support of parents, community members and elected officials. Talking with them about how policies and funding impact students and their academic success makes us stronger education professionals and advocates for our students. The relationships we build with parents, community members and elected officials will help to strengthen public education in Wyoming. Our education system in Wyoming is facing a funding crisis. It is important that we speak out about what is needed in our schools and how the funding cuts are affecting our students. You are the education experts, you understand what goes on in your school every day and what students need in order to be successful in school. Please take the time to talk to your legislators about how funding cuts are affecting your school, your classroom and your students. Some very important long-term decisions about school funding will be made this legislative session, so make your voice heard. Encourage parents and community members to contact their legislators about school funding and how it impacts your school and your community. Our students are depending on us to ensure they continue to receive a quality education. No matter how you choose to get involved, you can make a difference for your students, your school and education in our state. Kathy Vetter WEA President kvetter@wyoea.org Welcome to a New School Year President's Message
