T here are approximately 11 different wine tasting venues in Carmel. Carrie suggested that I check out the Blair Estate Winery, as well as the De Tierra Vineyards. These two venues turned out to be fantastic choices, as I had a blast, with each visit offering a unique experience. At the Blaire Estate Winery, the host was very jovial and knowl- edgeable about the winery offerings. Curious about what made Blaire Estate special, I had many wine related questions that my host happily answered with excitement, often adding a personal anecdote. Not only was the architecture and decor at De Tierra absolutely beautiful, their large open windows provided excel- lent views of the vineyards, and offered many areas to lounge and relax. The hostess at the De Tierra Vineyard was friendly and knowledgeable, which made my wine tasting experience a pleasant and memorable experience. After thoroughly enjoying both wine tastings, I was ready to check out the restaurant scene. 15 B M & T ••• July/August 2017 ••• www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com W aking up to warm and sunny weather was a perfect sign that no matter how short-lived my dream visit would be, it was a perfect day to experience what Carmel had to offer. My first enjoyable venture was walking to Carmel Beach, which is less than a mile away from the Hofsas House. I found it to be refreshing that most of the stores were locally owned, with limited commercial retail outlets. Once I arrived at the beach, I sat on the sand hill facing the water, took my sandals off, dug my feet into the cool sand and read my book. The clean air and sound of the waves made reading that much more enjoyable. After about an hour of reading and soaking in the sun at the beach, I decided it was time for my next adventure, wine tasting! Strolling to Carmel Beach: Wine Tasting:
