Bits & Pieces International News Hackenbacker gets Hunted L ONDON — Hackenbacker (www.hackenbacker. com) tackled audio post for the eight-part sus- pense/thriller Hunted. The series was produced by Kudos Film & Television in association with Big Light Productions for BBC One and HBO's Cinemax. Hunted was created by writer/producer Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files, Strike Back) and stars Melissa George as Sam, a skilled operative for an elite private intelligence firm. She survives an attempt on her life that may have been orchestrated by members of her own team and now has to perform her secretive duties without knowing who to trust. The series was shot on location in Scotland, London and Morocco. Hackenbacker, says studio founder Nigel Heath was encouraged to incorporate bold and origi- nal sound into the show. "The mix review sessions have had that wonderful feeling of everyone in the room — and there are sometimes quite a lot of us — really wanting to achieve the same end result," he says. "For what is actually a large and technically demanding show, there's been a lot of fun in the stu- dio, too. The composer Ruth Barrett has done a superb job and all of us on the sound crew are really quite chuffed with the final result." Sound Devices improves Pix monitoring EEDSBURG, WI — Sound Devices (www. sounddevices.com) has introduced the Pix 220i and Pix 240i audio/video recorders, which feature five-inch IPS-based LCD panels that pro- vide accurate color rendition and consistent off- axis viewing response. The new displays are essential for use in the field, providing users with immediate focus, audio R confirmation of framing, exposure, metering and set-up menu selections. The new IPS- based displays also offer higher contrast and better off-axis viewing. Sound Devices has also released V.2.01 firmware for all its Pix video recorders that adds support for Alexa SDI file name metadata. New playback control is available, including customized list playback, looped file playback and additional shuttle speeds. The new version also offers HD-to-SD and SD-to-HD aspect ratio conversion, with selectable letter boxing, cropping and support for anamorphic workflows. Users can connect the 220i and 240i to cameras with HDMI (plus SDI with the Pix 240i) and record directly to QuickTime using ProRes or DNxHD codecs. Shot by DP Benoit Debie, the film follows four broke coeds on spring break. It stars James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens.
