www.postmagazine.com 10 POST AUGUST 2017 SIGGRAPH 2017 NEWS LOS ANGELES – At the recent SIGGRAPH show in Los Angeles, Dell reflected on two decades of innovation and award-winning work from customers and partners who use the company's Precision worksta- tions. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dell Precision workstations, Dell announced additions to its Precision fixed workstation portfolio, a special anniversary edition of its Precision 5520 mobile workstation, and the official availability of Dell Canvas, the new workspace device for digital creation. The company's next generation, fixed workstation portfolio includes the Dell Precision 5820 Tower, Precision 7820 Tower, Precision 7920 Tower and Precision 7920 Rack, all of which are completely redesigned inside and out to power more creative workflows. The three new Dell Precision towers combine a brand-new innovative and flexible chassis with powerful performance from the latest Intel Xeon processors, next generation Radeon Pro graphics and highest performing Nvidia Quadro professional graphics cards. Certified for professional software applica- tions, the new towers are configured to seamlessly complete the most complex projects, such as virtual reality content development. "Looking back at 20 years of Dell Precision workstations, you get a sense of how the capabilities of our workstations, combined with cer- tified and optimized software and the creativity of our awesome cus- tomers, have achieved incredible things," says Rahul Tikoo, vice presi- dent and general manager for Dell Precision workstations. "As great as those achievements are, this new lineup of Dell Precision workstations enables our customers to be ready for the next big technology revolu- tion that is challenging business models and disrupting industries." At SIGGRAPH 2017, Dell also announced that its Dell Canvas is avail- able now on Dell.com. Dell Canvas is a new workspace that's designed to make digital creative work more natural. It features a 27-inch QHD touch screen that sits horizontally on a desk and can be powered by current PC ecosystems and the latest Windows 10 Creator's Update. Additionally, a digital pen offers precise tactile accuracy, and the totem offers diverse menu and shortcut interaction. Dell Canvas is already supported by many professional applications. To mark the 20th anniversary of Dell Precision, Dell is introducing a limited-edition anniversary model of its mobile workstation, the Dell Precision 5520. The Precision 5520 Anniversary Edition is Dell's thin- nest, lightest, and smallest mobile workstation, and is available for a limited time with an exclusive hard anodized aluminum, brushed me- tallic finish in a brand-new Abyss color with anti-finger print coating. The device is available with two high-end configuration options. DELL'S PRECISION WORKSTATION TURNS 20 PALO ALTO, CA — At SIGGRAPH, HP (www.hp.com) announced what it's calling a "unified ap- proach" and commercial solutions for virtual reality (VR), positioning itself as a partner for those busi- nesses looking to reduce con- cept-to-production cycle times, improve training procedures and deliver fully immersive custom- er experiences. As part of its strategy, the company is unveiling a professional, wearable VR PC — the new HP Z VR Backpack. The HP Z VR Backpack solution provides the freedom to move and maintain total immersion with high-octane visual performance and docking capabilities that transform it into a manage- able, powerful desktop PC experience. The HP Z VR Backpack is a catalyst for more powerful VR experiences across many enterprises and businesses including: Commercial entertainment where new location-based entertainment centers are featuring virtual reality experiences as well as businesses, medical training, architectural building development and in product development. The Backpack is light, with an ergonomic backpack design and hot swappable batteries to provide unrestricted freedom within an immersive experience. It has high-end processing power and the latest high-fidelity graphic solution to help pre- vent disruptive dropped frames so users can work in VR for as long as needed. The Intel Core i7 vPro processor provides the power to process applications quickly and includes the vPro chipset. According to the company, the HP Z VR Backpack is the first wearable VR PC in the market and includes the Nvidia Quadro P5200 with 16GB of video memory. Finally, its docking solution lets digital creators quickly transition back and forth between high-powered desktop for content design and wearable VR PC to validate creations. "Making the most of this technology requires a collaborative relationship between customers and partners. As a leader in technology, HP is uniting powerful commercial VR solutions, including new products like the HP Z VR Backpack, with customer needs to empower VR experiences our customers can use today to reinvent the future." The HP Z VR Backpack is part of HP's VR family of solutions, which also includes the HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation, the HP Z Desktop Workstations, the HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Tower, and the OMEN X Compact Desktop brings gamers an immersive experience. The factory-overclocked GPU from NVIDIA and versatile form factor means it can dock and undock quickly for gaming anywhere or can be used as a backpack for an untethered consumer VR gam- ing experience.
