www.postmagazine.com 38 POST JUNE 2017 POSTINGS: BROADCAST DESIGN LOS ANGELES — Creative studio Midnight Sherpa (http://midnightsherpa.com) recently created the branding and title sequence for CBS's reality drama, Hunted. The show challenges its contestants to disappear for 28 days, while highly skilled law enforcement and intelligence officials try to track them down. Both state-of- the-art technology and traditional tactics play a role in finding them. The show is produced by Endemol Shine North America, in partnership with CBS, and was inspired by the British reality program of the same name, which ran for six episodes on the UK's Channel 4 in 2015. Midnight Sherpa was brought in by the showrunners to create a graphics package for the US version that would help set it apart from other series currently on television. It quickly became apparent that the Midnight Sherpa team needed to devel- op branding that not only quickly communicated the show's theme, but also captivated the audience. Their solution was to visualize big data and tracking to create a frenetic, highly-technological amalgam of imagery and information. The brand evoked a design language that reflects the technological themes of the show — from geolocators, when tracking cell towers and scanning license plates in high traffic areas, to time and date indicators on CCTV footage. The team developed the main logotype and disseminated the look through all the UI animations and textural elements. For the show assets, Midnight Sherpa delved deeper into surveillance and the high-risk game of hide-and-seek for the key art. Taking cues from information design of satellite tracking to facial recognition software, the studio stylized the in-show maps, mugshots and associated data to tie in with the actual assets the hunters relied on. The design language developed by Midnight Sherpa ultimately informed the highly stylized title sequence. A complementary design direction was developed for the branding of the season premiere. The portraits and mugshots of the hunt- ers and hunted contained key locations and moments from the show. Aesthetically, Midnight Sherpa portrayed the elements as raw and unmodified, as they would come from various surveillance mediums. The title sequence was created using a combination of Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator over shot footage and photographic assets. MIDNIGHT SHERPA BRANDS CBS'S HUNTED LEXINGTON, KY — Post Time Studios (posttimestudios.com) pro- duced a one-hour TV program, Royal Windsor Horse Show: Driving Grand Prix, covering the Horse and Carriage Driving Competition at the Royal Windsor Horse Show (www.hpower.co.uk). The event occured on the private grounds of Windsor Castle from May 10th through 14th and premiered in the UK on Horse & Country TV on May 21st. It will air in the US on NBC Sports on Saturday, July 1st. Long Island NY's ZDI (www.zdi.agency) created the graphics package for Royal Windsor Horse Show: Driving Grand Prix, using a combination of the Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects. Kevin Bulger served as lead designer/animator and Richard Zimmer was creative director. The team worked closely with David Silvernell of Post Time, who served as graphics supervisor. The program is a fast-paced, modern sports production that captures all of the pageantry, excitement and challenges drivers face during the three-phase competition. As many as 55,000 visitors attended the show, which offers an extensive program of first class equestrian competition and displays in five arenas. Her Majesty the Queen has attended every year since it started in 1943 and it is the only time of the year that the private grounds of Windsor Castle are open to the public. "We're producing a show that will thrill all sports fans, not just fans of equine sports," explains Danny Tepper, Post Time's executive in charge of production. "We've designed a style, pace and energy that's never been applied to an international carriage competition before. We're giving this production the royal treatment." Post Time Studios used Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects to complete the program. In addition to Silvernell, studio credits include Darren Platt, who was senior editor.
