FOUNDRY PREVIEWS NUKE 11 & ELARA Foundry (www.foundry.com) presented its first public previews of Nuke 11.0 and Elara, a new service for post in the cloud. A live-streamed event gave Foundry enthusiasts the full scoop, along with the latest news on the company's ongoing partnership with Lytro Cinema. In open beta, Nuke 11.0 will be the next major re- lease of the company's compositing tool. Focusing on collaboration and performance, Nuke 11.0 intro- duces new features to the Nuke family, including Live Groups, Lens Distortion improvements and Timeline Disk Caching, as well as a huge update to the latest industry standards via the VFX Reference Platform 2017. The company also introduced Elara, a cloud- based service for post that centralizes infrastruc- ture, creative tools and pipeline. Studios can now access everything they need via their Web browser, including Foundry and third-party applications, integrated cloud rendering, scalable storage and compute. Foundry demonstrated how a global team can set up a virtual studio, complete with central pipeline, storage and resources in a few clicks, with- out worrying about a high upfront investment or management complexity. Cara VR has continued to grow alongside the fast-moving VR space. Foundry showed off new support for depth data, drawn from VR camera rigs like Nokia's OZO. By opening up this new depth information, users can now design more immersive 360 experiences, utilizing the depth-based compos- iting toolset in Nuke. PIXVANA PARTNERS WITH AKAMAI TO DELIVER FLAWLESS VR VIDEO EXPERIENCES Pixvana Inc. (www.pixvana.com), the Seattle-based developer of a cloud-based platform for virtual and augmented reality, announced a partnership with Akamai Technologies to deliver enhanced virtual reality video experiences through its SPIN Studio VR content creation and delivery platform. Pixvana's SPIN Studio users will now be able to distribute VR content via Akamai's secure content delivery network (CDN), reducing latency and improving re- sponsiveness for viewers. Pixvana offered attendees a look at SPIN Studio as part of Akamai's innova- tion demonstrations during the NAB Show at the Akamai booth. A key benefit of SPIN Studio is Pixvana's field-of- view adaptive streaming (FOVAS) technology, which adjusts focus in realtime to deliver 50-megapix- el quality within eyeshot at HD bit rates. Akamai technology further enhances FOVAS by pre-caching FOVAS tiles at servers close to the user, accelerating playback and improving viewer experience. JMR DEBUTS ICS MEDIA MASSTER 102 JMR Electronics, Inc. Linda Romanello met with the team at Silverdraft (www.silverdraft.com) — (left) CEO and co-founder Amy Gile and (right) VP of sales & marketing Steve Bannerman — who were presenting high-end VR demos, running on the company's custom-built Devil and Demon optimized workstations. The team from Hollywood's SonicPool (www.sonicpool.com) stopped by the Post booth to pick up an issue. They were featured in our Open House column in April and are planning further expansion. Blackmagic Design's (www.blackmagicde sign.com) Bob Caniglia sat down with Linda Romanello on Post TV to discuss some of the new features in DaVinci Resolve 14 — the product's biggest release to date.
