Divines - A Film from France Directed by Houda Benyamina
In a poor housing project near Paris where poor girls have little hope of escaping poverty,
Dounia, daughter of a Roma barmaid, hooks up with Rebecca, a tough drug dealer who sees
Dounia as a savvy acolyte. Dounia brings along her Muslim BFF Maimouna and together they
begin a dangerous series of thefts and wild scams. The girls have a hideout above a theatre,
where Dounia sees a dancer whose different view of life fascinates her. The film defies race and
gender stereotypes and explodes with cinematic energy. This is a spectacular directorial debut.
Director Houda Benyamina won the Golden Camera at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and the
film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language.

City of Ghosts Directed by Matthew Heineman
A real-life international thriller, City of Ghosts exposes a new type of warfare: a battle over ideas,
a fight for hearts and minds, a conflict over clicks and views. It follows the journey of "Raqqa
is Being Slaughtered Silently" – a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after
their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. With deeply personal access, this is the story
of a brave group of citizen journalists as they face the realities of life undercover, on the run,
and in exile, risking their lives to stand up against one of the greatest evils in the world today.
City of Ghosts was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
Running Time: 90 minutes - Print Courtesy of Amazon Studios and IFC Films
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Director Matthew Heineman.
