The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum at Historic Palmer Memorial Institute is North Carolina's only state-supported historic site recog- nizing a woman and is also one of the first to honor an African-American. The site is the location of the former Palmer Memorial Institute, an African- American preparatory school estab- lished by Brown in 1902.
