Avid NEXIS scalability enhance- ments now double the capacity of Avid NEXIS | Enterprise systems. Avid NEXIS supports up to 48 Media Packs across a single scale-out enterprise-class system, enabling customers to mix and match a combi- nation of Avid NEXIS | E5, E4 and E2 engines, whether for new installations or integrated with their existing Avid ISIS systems. With this new release, customers can scale the Avid NEXIS system's total capacity up to nearly 3PB of total storage with up to 19.2 B/seconds of bandwidth, capable of delivering 250 streams of Sony XAVC-Intra 59p UHD or more than 680 streams of DNxHD 220 media. The new scale out features build on the previously announced Avid NEXIS High Availability options — including the Avid NEXIS Redundant Storage Controller, Redundant System Director and Redundant Networking. Avid NEXIS Media Mirror Protection guards an entire Avid NEXIS system against any five simul- taneous disk failures, and even an entire engine failure. "Media organizations need more robust storage infrastructure, great- er reliability and control, and clos- er collaboration in order to create high-quality and engaging content," says Alan Hoff, vice president, market solutions, Avid. "These new inno- vations for Avid NEXIS deliver the most resilient storage system in the industry with unmatched scalability, together with high-availability options that address these needs and boost operational efficiency." Due to the openness of the MediaCentral Platform which powers Avid NEXIS, the new solutions for Avid NEXIS work with all top media creation applications, including Media Composer, Pro Tools, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Grass Valley Edius and more. SAROFSKY EXPANDS TALENT WITH CORY DAVIS AND DAN TIFFANY CHICAGO — Sarofsky (www.sarofsky. com) recently added creative VFX and finishing artist Cory Davis and designer Dan Tiffany to its staff. One of Chicago's leading freelance VFX artists for many years, Davis has been an integral contributor to some of Sarofsky's greatest achievements. With experience spanning from title sequences for the Marvel blockbusters Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange to main titles for TNT's Animal Kingdom and Super Bowl ads, Davis is experienced in cre- ation, finishing and delivery. A talented motion designer, Tiffany has been freelancing for Sarofsky and other top creative industry firms in Chicago since 2015. Tiffany began his career as an intern for specialized cre- ative agency Leviathan before landing a staff position with Daily Planet in 2011. Since going freelance, Tiffany has worked on high-profile commercial, broadcast and theatrical projects for Comcast, Leo Burnett and mcgarry- bowen and was an integral part of Sarofsky's design team behind the main titles for both Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange. (L-R) Davis and Tiffany EDITING BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, the latest from director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Life of Pi) about a 19-year-old private who is brought home for a victory tour after a harrowing Iraq battle, has certainly been recognized, if nothing else, for its innovative and experimental shooting style. While typically most films are shot at 24fps, Lee pushed the possibilities for visual storytelling with a unique approach, shooting in 3D at 4K resolution and 120 frames per second. DP John Toll worked closely with Lee, shooting the film on a Sony CineAlta F65 camera, while Tim Squyres (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Life of Pi; Hulk; Sense and Sensibility) edited the film. In an exclusive interview with Post, Squyres discusses the film's editing challeng- es. Visit postmagazine.com for the full story.
