JMR SHIPS DESKTOP/DI CART FOR USE WITH MAC MINI CHATSWORTH, CA — JMR Electronics (www.jmr.com) has announced the general availability of its Thunderbolt-certified desktop and rackmount workstation for the Apple Mac mini. The JMR Lightning model LTNG-XD-8-MMDT is an all-new desktop/DI cart complete workstation. The Mac mini installs via an easy slide-in sled from the rear, and the Lightning desktop provides front-panel USB3, audio I/O and me- dia card reader, while the rear panel provides all other Mac connections. An internal Thunderbolt control- ler and two-slot PCIe (x8 full-height slots) expander with an internal 6Gb SAS RAID controller are standard, as well as eight 3.5-inch hot-swap- pable disk drive bays to provide up to 64TBs of native disk storage ca- pacity (RAID 0/1/4/5/6/40/50/60). The desktop/cart unit will have an optional 9-inch LCD flip-up monitor, which connects to the Mac mini and may be added or removed in the field without tools. The Lightning desktop is very portable and quiet in operation, cooled by a low-speed centrifugal blower in a removable module. The unit also has an attractive locking, ventilated and hinged front door to prevent accidental disk drive removal or theft, and a Kensington lock slot. SONY PICTURES POST ADDS HOME THEATER DUB STAGE CULVER CITY, CA — Sony Pictures Post Production Services (www. sonypictures.com), located on the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, has added a new mix stage dedicated to next-generation home theater audio formats. The new stage is designed to simulate a home theater environ- ment and equipped to master feature film and television projects in Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D and other immersive sound formats. This new room has been used to prepare several feature titles for Blu-ray disc, 4K Ultra HD disc and digital delivery. "This new stage keeps us at the forefront in immersive sound, providing an ideal workflow and environment for mastering for home theaters," says Sony Pictures Post Production Services executive vice president Tom McCarthy. "We are empowering mixers to maximize the creative potential of these new sound formats and deliver rich, enveloping soundtracks that consumers can enjoy in the home." "The Sony Pictures Post Production mix stage adds to the growing foot- print of Dolby Atmos enabled post production facilities and gives the Hollywood creative community the tools they need to deliver an immer- sive experience to consumers, adding additional depth, detail and clarity to the soundtracks," adds Curt Behlmer, senior vice president, content solu- tions and industry relations, Dolby Laboratories. The new mix stage features an Avid Pro Tools S6 mixing console with 24 faders and two Pro Tools HDX sys- tems. In addition to a wide array of plug-ins, the stage offers ancillary gear from Blackmagic Design, Pegasus, Brainstorm and other manufacturers.
