His first winery, Santa Margherita, known for its pioneering style of high-quality Italian Pinot Grigio, was only the first of an entire mosaic of wineries, developed to highlight the very best of Italy's winemaking regions. Now, with a collection of wineries joined under one umbrella, Santa Margherita USA, the recently- founded importer, looks to delve deeper into unique Italian terroir, introducing sommeliers and consumers from across the country to a portfolio of regionally-driven wines whose connections to the earth and the people who make them render them unforgettable and transformational. To begin exploring the portfolio, The Somm Journal gathered a group of Arizona buyers at the super-exclusive We were joined by Santa Margherita USA Public Relations Manager, Lisa Friedman and sales team members Nichole Lang and Bob Piotrowski. We tasted through six wines: Three selections were from Alto Adige producer Kettmeir, and three from the iconic Chianti Classico winery Lamole di Lamole, before ending with a very special blind tasting featur - ing historical library vintages from Lamole di Lamole. "There's so much more to the story than Santa Margherita", begins Piotrowkski. "The Marzottos are dedicated to the sustainability of the land, are committed to organic farming methods and are an undeniable economic engine in Italian winemaking," he continues.
