Which is why we are so in love with Food Huggers; a genius idea born on Kickstarter, they're silicone lids for your fruits and veggies. With different sizes to fit anything from limes to those pesky onion halves, they keep your food fresh and, since they're reusable, they're also much more eco-friendly and economical than a Ziploc or plastic wrap. You can also use them for jars and cans, and they even have ones that are perfectly shaped for avocados. Although we have to admit, as avid avocado eaters, we haven't had any leftovers to use that one yet! Mad Hatter Tea When Alice in Wonderland sat down for the Mad Tea Party and all sorts of strange and wonderful things happened, it's quite possible it wasn't just plain tea in her cup. Enter The Mad Hatter Coffee & Tea Company, who use the super- critical CO 2 extraction process to make cannabis-infused essential oil for beverages, including coffee, tea, and chai. Started in Colorado in 2007 by Jill Alikas St. Thomas and her husband as a way to help those with various ailments to self-med- icate with cannabis, the company has now expanded their business to states that have recently legal- ized marijuana for recreational use, including Washington and New Mexico, with more states to come. If you were worried about over- steeping your tea, and then falling asleep for 24 hours, not to worry: "Our products are lab tested, so each serving has a certain allot- ted dosage, for example we sell 20 mg, 80 mg, 120 mg, and 160 mg doses. You can make a pot or a very strong cup," says St. Thomas. Health-Ade Kombucha Kombucha is everywhere, migrating from health food stores into the aisles of your big chain super- markets. Kombucha, a mildly carbonated fermented tea full of healthy probiotics, normally tastes just about strange as you'd imagine. Many of the uninitiated have been on the fence about Kombu- cha, finding it to be too funky or too acidic. But then Health-Ade Kombucha came along. Defying expectations with flavors like Pomegranate, Pink Lady Apple, and California Grape, their Kombucha tastes like a wonderfully bubbly fruit soda. Best of all, it's certified organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, raw, vegan, and kosher, so those with allergies or other dietary restraints can try it out as well. We're also in love with the stylish packaging—there's even anchors etched on the bottoms of the glass bottle! So feel free to have one and get your fizzy fix without all the artificial flavors and sugar of a soda, which is a sweet treat we can get behind. Oasis Hommus Hummus is one of those wonderful foods that goes with everything: chips, veggies, spread on sandwiches; the uses for hummus is endless. Made mainly from chickpeas and tahini, hummus may be high in fat, but it's the good kind of fat— our favorite kind. If you're looking for something even healthier, a particular standout is Oasis Hommus (their spelling), which comes in a wide variety of over 20 different flavors, 16 of them low-fat, with the other six boasting zero fat. With flavors like Chipotle, Fava Bean, and Roasted Red Peppers, there's an Oasis Hommus for every meal, whether it's hummus and avocado on toast for breakfast or hummus mashed potatoes (yes, really) for dinner. We're partial to the extra garlic flavor, eaten with some pita chips. Oasis Hommus ■cr f a l l / w i n t e r 2 0 1 5 | 7 1
