WE ARE LIVING IN EYE-OPENING and groundbreaking times. We want to be aware of what we eat, be cognizant of what we put in our bodies, know where our food comes from, who is growing it and who is preparing it, and understand what they have to add to the conversation. We are proud to profile chefs like Daniel Patterson, whom we feature on our inaugu- ral cover, and who continues to push the boundaries of what we eat, how we eat, and our collective consciousness regard- ing both; and farmers like Phil McGrath (see page 110), who farm with an eye and mind toward innovation, but with feet planted in tradition and heritage. Add to this the increasing dialogue about cannabis and the inexorable walk towards its legalization here in our country, and we must acknowledge the important of artisans such as John Oliver (see page 60), who is promoting safer methods of producing medical and recreational cannabis products. These men and women are trailblazers who are developing a framework for an industry that is revolutionizing medicine, farming, and all aspects of our culture. We are proud to be part of this changing history. Above all, we are honored to bring their stories to you, our clever and inquisitive audience Karen Moneymaker —Managing Editor LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Selected Contributors Dan Anglin, Lana Bortolot, Frenchy Cannoli, Jeff Cox, Christopher Sawyer, Merrill Shindler, John Terlato, Deborah Parker Wong Contributing Editors Contributors
