ON SET, NEAR SET DAILIES back to the on-set system where the DIT uses them to refresh the session. "He can see what happened in the full color ses- sion overnight," Hawthorne explains. Cortex Manifest, which was introduced last year, makes Cortex Dailies stand out, she notes. The sidecar file records all media files that have been copied and verified, as well as all color, sync and oth- er dailies metadata. It can be exported as lightweight XML to be passed from set to post production and back along with the media files. "You can do this with other systems through a series of multi- ple steps," says Hawthorne. "But ours is just a one-step process." Cortex 2.0 is set to launch at NAB 2015 with UHD format support and a "completely unique" Dead Pixel Detec- tion feature, which Hawthorne calls "the first way to efficiently catch dead pixels at an early stage of production." SETMEUP Perhaps the newest on-set dailies solution, SetMeUp (www.setmeup.tv) launched in January from Cinedeck (www.cinedeck.com) and Axle Video (www.axlevideo.com). Built into a con- venient, wheeled, rackmount enclosure, SetMeUp includes everything needed to capture, playback, store and manage HD and 4K/UHDTV video content on-set. It makes media instantly available while keeping native assets secure and easily searchable, and delivers seamlessly to Apple, Adobe and Avid editing systems. The main components are Cined- eck ZX for record/playback and Axle Gear Pro media management software for browser-based cataloging, search, review and approval with a simple user interface. Both are proven solutions with hundreds of installations worldwide; now they're combined in SetMeUp along with 18TBs of storage optimized for capturing incoming media. The browser interface works with mobile devices, and a new module allows rough cuts from mobile devices. SetMeUp fits in the middle of ingest and review and approval systems, says Axle Video CEO, Sam Bogoch. "Up to this time there have been two types of systems: prosumer systems that you hope won't break, and high-end, very elaborate Hollywood post systems with customized review and approval soft- ware and super live color adjustment. What's been missing is something right down the middle for a typical episodic or reality show that can capture media, store it, search it and do review and ap- proval. We want to fit in that sweet spot where you don't need to wheel $250,000 in exotic stuff onto a set in order to be in business — more like a quarter of that. A full SetMeUp system, including storage, is priced at $59,995." SetMeUp comes with a powerful Gigabit Ethernet network switch, with 12 open ports, for attaching workstations, additional storage, routers, audio and wireless equipment. Open rack space, Gigabit network interfaces and power connections accommodate two types of optional integrated storage, including Avid ISIS or Facilis TerraBlock. SetMeUp is available for rent and purchase from Runway, All Mobile Video, Creative Mobile Solutions, Cutting Edge and Cinesys/Oceana. "SetMeUp is a simple yet powerful capture system that automates the complex process of asset management and makes it transparent for creatives," says Johnathon Amayo, vice president of engineering at Hollywood-based Runway. "Up until now, it's been unheard of to have a mobile asset management system at this price point. And SetMeUp is capable of working with all the new media formats." The SetMeUp dailies solution from Cinedeck and Axle Video targets episodic and reality TV productions.
