6  /  the tasting panel  /  april 2015 UP Wine, like all good things in life, is a constant education. From studying the latest in service innovation to tech-driven harvest techniques to esoteric blending philoso- phies, every level of the industry is ripe with new information to study in and classic, timeless footsteps to follow. With so much to take in at once, THE TASTING PANEL's sister publication The SOMM Journal has partnered with Banfi Vintners to bring together some of the world's best winemakers for a college-level educational experience like no other: the Cru Artisan College. During this collegiate tour, we'll be sending you back to school to study some of the leading issues facing the industry today. With a rigorous academic course set, we're proud to have gathered a top-notch faculty to guide your studies. Please take a moment to get to know your professors: During your time at CAC, they will offer unique insight and invaluable experience that will continue to enrich your enological education. Meet the Faculty! Salvatore Geraci, Family Proprietor, Palari, Sicily, Italy Professor Geraci is truly a Renaissance Man: An architect who was famous for his work on monumental restoration projects, Professor Geraci became involved in winemaking after inheriting his grandfather's 18th century Faro DOC estate and vineyards. Combined with his passion for restoration, Professor Geraci's enological efforts have reinstated the Faro DOC's position within the Sicilian wine industry, which he will explain during the A Sense of Place seminar. Rudy Buratti, Chief Winemaker, Castello Banfi, Montalcino, Italy As part of the Castello Banfi winemaking team for over 30 years, Professor Buratti is a veritable fixture in the Italian wine world, offering a direct link to the Mariani family, historic proprietors of Castello Banfi. A leader in clonal research on Sangiovese, Professor Buratti has also overseen the development of innovative wood and steel fermentation tanks for Castello Banfi's top estate wines. Professor Buratti will bring his expertise to life as the keynote speaker in the Brunello Deconstructed seminar. Enrico Cerulli, Family Proprietor, Cerulli Spinozzi, Teramo, Italy With his family roots in Abruzzi dating back generations, Professor Cerulli's passion lies in focusing on super-quality wines from the Colline Teramane subregion, Abruzzi's only DOCG. A commitment to organic farming and eco-friendly pesticide prevention will be discussed during the Going Green: All Hail Mother Nature seminar. Andrea Sartori, Family Proprietor, Sartori di Verona, Negrar, Italy Professor Sartori is the great grandson of Pietro Sartori, founder of Sartori di Verona, now one of the Veneto's leading wine producers. The former president of Italy's producer trade group, the Unione Italiana Vini, Sartori will bring generations of family experience to his insider look at Amarone in the An Amore for Amarone seminar. by Rachel Burkons UpFront with Cru Artisan College
