I t was a beautiful March evening at the Wente Family Estates' Murrieta's Well winery in Livermore, CA, and while the dramatic, dark storm clouds painting the sky may have told a much more ominous story, the conversation on the ground was nothing but celebratory as distributors from around the world gathered for the Legacy VII Awards. Carolyn Wente, Fourth Generation Winegrower and CEO of Wente Family Estates, and her family were once again welcoming their distribu- tor partners with open arms to fill the special night with laughter, appreciation and a genuine, great time. "Tonight we are here to celebrate and recognize what you do for us. 132 years of growing grapes and making wine, but you have to sell it. Five generations of a winemaking family would not be here, if it weren't for the individuals in this room. So I'd like to raise my glass to your success and excellence," began Carolyn with the first toast of the evening—the first of many for the distinguished group of distributors and international importers, whose excellence in sales and dedication to Wente deserved high-praise. The scene inside The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards was one of a very grateful family, paying their respect to individuals who were more like extended family than "salespeople." Every year, this night celebrates these relationships and the spectacular California wine that people across the globe can enjoy because of them—a slice, or glass, of heaven for all.
