But where others see a dizzying roller coaster of consumer buying habits, Sutter Home sees an opportunity to satisfy the public's palate. To ensure they follow the correct path when it comes to product development, the winery goes straight to the source—the customers themselves. "Sutter Home quickly learned the importance of listening and responding to what our consumers are saying. We want our consumers to know that we understand what they want and we will continue to set the bar for the wine industry," says Wendy Nyberg, Vice President of Marketing for Sutter Home. Utilizing this philosophy, the brand noticed a big segment for growth: red blends— which according to Nielsen data, has become the fastest growing segment among the top ten largest table wine varietals, making up six percent of total wine sales. To satisfy this demand, the winery added new Sutter Home Red Blend—featuring three varieties from California: Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot— to its portfolio in December 2014. This offering boasts bold, rich flavors that pair beautifully with grilled meats and vegetables, as well as risottos and tomato-based pasta dishes. "With our new Red Blend, we are offering consumers a new look and taste experi- ence compared to our original varietals. It is perfectly on trend, the package is stun- ning, and the wine is delicious," Nyberg explains. Or in other words, this blend rolls out the red carpet for your patrons and gives the people exactly what they crave. Get Caught Red Blend-ed The iconic and historic Victorian at the Sutter Home Winery greets guests who visit the property. Tasting Notes A deep, luscious red in the glass, its nose delivers bursts of fresh cherries and berries with undertones of sweet vanilla. On the palate, this sophisticated, medium dry wine doesn't disap- point—soft tannins accom- pany toasty oak and spice notes, which are balanced by big juicy red flavors and lead into a silky finish. www.sutterhome.com SUTTER HOME EXPANDS ITS GROWING PORTFOLIO WITH A NEW RED BLEND by Emily Coleman PHOTO COURTESY OF SUTTER HOME
