BY PENELPE BLAIR T he National Black Child Development Institute will host their 41st annu- al conference in Nashville, TN at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center from October 8-11, 2011. Keynote speakers include: Jeff Johnson, MSNBC contributor and White House correspondent; Donna Joyner, fitness and aerobics instructor; and Patricia Russell-McCloud, professional orator and author. This year's panel topics include: How to Support and Promote Diverse Leadership and The Role of Higher Education in Preparing Effective Educators of Black and Latino Children. Last year more than 17,000 attendees par- ticipated. Previous conference locations have included Anaheim, CA in 2010 and Atlanta, GA in 2009. Members of the African American Success Foundation will set sail abroad the Celebrity Millennium, November 14-19, 2011 for their annual Success Summit. Attendees will discuss, research and dissimilate infor- mation that highlights charac- teristics of African-American high achievers and the many accomplishments of African-Americans as a whole. This year's Summit at Sea will head to Roatan, Honduras and Cozumel,Mexico. In 2009, the first Summit at Sea was intro- duced. Attendees visited Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman. Due to its popularity, the Summit at Seawas offered again in 2010 with destinations to the Bahamas.Prior to 2009, the foundation hosted a Success Summit and Jazz Benefit from2000 to 2008. The NationalAssociation of Black Scuba Drivers (NABS) will plunge into the tropical waters off the shores of Grand Cayman Island from November 2-6, 2011. This year's host hotel will be the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. The NABS 16 currently has over 2,000 members worldwide dedicated to the education of preserving marine life. Members have pledged to protect, enjoy and help conserve marine environments. Past destinations have included Costa Rica in 2010 and the Grand Bahama in 2009. Educators, scholars and school administrators will head to Chicago for the 21st Annual International Conference of the National Association for Multicultural Education at the downtown Chicago Marriot Magnificent Mile Hotel. Williams, Author of "Seeing a Color-Blind Future: The Paradox of Race," Professor Erica Meiners, Author of "Right to be Hostile: Schools, Prisons and the Making of Public Enemies," and Professor Vjay Prashad, Author of "The Darker Nations: A People's History of the ThirdWorld."Past destinations have included: Denver,COin 2009 and Las Vegas, NV in 2010. The National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners (NCBMP) will host their fall conference at The Cosmo- politan Hotel in Las Vegas, NV from November 15-19, 2011. The NCBMP has a network of more than 1,200 pro- fessionals nationwide. The organiza- tion hosts a spring and fall annual con- ference. The spring conference attracts approximately 400 attendees. The fall conference generally attracts close to 600 attendees. Last year's spring conference destination was FortWorth,TX and the fall conference was Toronto, Ontario. Previous destina- tions have included Valley Forge, PA for spring 2009 and Daytona Beach, FL for fall 2009. Montgomery,AL was the city selected for spring 2008 andWashington,DC won out for fall 2009.
