improve student learning and employed by
an accredited K-12 public or private school
located in the United States. All K-12 education
professionals, whether or not they are clients
of ING, are eligible. Applications must be
verified by the school superintendent, principal,
or applicant's immediate supervisor. Previous
recipients of ING Unsung Heroes awards are
not eligible to apply for another award.
All awards must be used to further the
projects within the school or school system.
Indirect costs or administrative fees should not
be paid or withheld from the grant award. Each
of the 100 finalists will receive an award of
$2,000. At least one award will be granted in
each of the 50 United States, provided one or
more qualified applications are received from
each state. Of the 100 finalists, three will be
selected for additional financial awards. First
place will receive $25,000; second place will
receive $10,000, and the third place winner will
receive $5,000.
Awards are granted without regard to race,
color, creed, religion, age, gender, disability, or

srp Learning grants
Learning Grants by SRP provide a unique
opportunity that allows schools, teachers and
students to develop projects and programs
geared toward attainment of state-mandated
competencies. Specifically, the grants support
innovative teaching strategies that improve
student performance objectives in math and
science. SRP offers a total of $125,000 for
Learning Grants in math and science, with up to
$5,000 available for each school site.
Public and private, nonprofit schools,
kindergarten through grade 12, are eligible
to compete for Learning Grants by SRP. All
educators in metropolitan Phoenix, Pinal
County, Gila County, Yavapai County, Page and
St. Johns are eligible to apply.
The application period for the 2014-15
school year is now open. Applications will be
accepted until March 31, 2014. Applicants will
be notified in mid-April 2014 of grant status.

aChieveMent grants
The NEA Foundation Student Achievement
Grants provide funds to improve the academic
achievement of students by engaging in critical
thinking and problem-solving that deepen
knowledge of standards-based subject matter.
The work should also improve students' habits
of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical
reflection. Practicing U.S. public school
teachers, public school education support
professionals, or faculty or staff at public
higher education institutions are eligible
for these $5,000 grants. Apply online by

ChaLLenge
The goal of the Exploration Design
Challenge is for students to research and
design ways to protect astronauts from space
radiation. NASA and Lockheed Martin are
developing the Orion spacecraft that will carry
astronauts beyond low Earth orbit and onto an

heroes
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
honors outstanding young leaders who have
focused on helping their communities and

ages 8 – 18, are eligible for this $2,500 award.
