went by and then James Gunn was able to articulate what was important to him—the Imps. He saw their movement through the grass as critical to the story, so I went back to the drawing board and came up with a pink field of grass that gently extended to the hills in the distance. We presented five samples of grass in different shades of pink, and James Gunn chose his favorite. The set was about 20-feet by 50-feet with a curvy path dividing it, made of different-colored painted bricks (homage to the yellow brick road). The movement in the grass was created by SPX; They pulled little mice- like objects to resemble the movements of the 5-inch-tall Imps. At first, you thought how cute the Imps were, but when they became an army of malevolent creatures in rainbow colors, you ran away and closed the door. At least that's what our characters had to do, except for the one who died from the Imps' attack. Peacemaker also allowed me to design an important vehicle: the Peace Cycle. James Gunn wanted it to be a throwback to 1970s Captain America. With the help of the Concept Artist Pat Presley, we were able to bring to life a vehicle worthy of envy. It was a magnificent bike in glorious American flag colors. Underneath, it all was a Harley-Davidson, but with new parts, new guns and colors. I felt the joy with which Chris rode that bike through the small-town center. He was a king, albeit of a small universe, but a universe nonetheless. A huge mural depicting the Top Trio greeted him. That mural design was the centerpiece of the series. Jenn Moye and I had deep conversations about how simple or how timely to make it. It needed to be glorious, triumphant at the same time…fascist. We decided on a realistic portrayal of the three heroes: Auggie/Blue Dragon, Keith and Chris, but on a simple background of stripes and stars surrounding them. I kept thinking that when fascism comes to America, it will be on this exact background, the American flag. Our fascism will be in the details. ADG A. CANDYLAND. FINAL FRAME WITH DIGITAL EXTENSION.
