That was the beginning of what would lead me to fulfill two long-term Production Design ambitions of mine. I've always wanted to build a set in a landscape so it becomes a living, breathing place, at one with the environment. I've also always wanted to design and build a miniature spaceship. Design Approach. My approach to Production Design, whether it's building a set or finding locations, is twofold. If we know there's going to be a long period of screen time in a set, then it'll always be as immersive as we can make it. The reason for this, I've come to realize, is that the sets we design and build are for the actors to inhabit. It's also for the director and DP to have as much freedom as possible to tell the story, without having to be compromised or limited. I also believe that if the rest of the crew truly feels that they are in an authentic space, it transfers them into the reality of the film, and subsequently, there's a more cohesive film created. The incredible thing about collaborating with Yorgos is his 'see what you think' ideology. You have to remember that you've been chosen because he's seen something in you. He wants you to go on an exploration, encouraging you to be brave, push yourself and reach for the stars. Teddy's House. Design. The initial plan for Teddy's house was to build the majority of the house on location, and then have the basement and research room on a stage. Having spent time in Louisiana making Sean Durkin's The Iron Claw, I knew it would be virtually impossible to find a location that we could take over completely for Teddy's house that had a P i c t u r i n g t h e F a t e o f H u m a n i t y B U G O N I A B Y J A M E S P R I C E , P R O D U C T I O N D E S I G N E R A. 3D MODEL CONCEPT ART OF THE ANDROMEDAN SPACESHIP EXTERIOR, CREATED BY JONAS BETHGE USING BLENDER.
