in the same space. Now in her character Olympia's Lawrence's office, it all felt surreal and right. By April 2023, Matlock had completed its pilot, and the set was once again at a crossroads. The union strikes put everything on pause, including the set's fate. It was in July of the strike that we learned Glamorous would not have a second season and the set still standing in Toronto was at risk of being scrapped entirely. I've heard stories of shows like Veep and Rizzoli & Isles moving their sets across the country, only for their scenic elements to arrive in such disarray that they were nearly useless. Without proper staffing on both ends, cataloging, packing and support from the studio, the process of striking a set can often result in waste upon arrival. Saws-all cuts through molding, trashed flats from rubbing as they shimmied their way from Baltimore to Los Angeles. Yet, the industry promotes sustainability initiatives—so why weren't we following through? This question drove me to phone calls and to emails with CBS Studios. Determined to prevent unnecessary waste and to be true to the touted sustainability ideas—I cannot count how many times I have heard in HR training seminars of a studio's commitment to the environment. It is more than having fewer plastic water bottles, it is more than digital scripts. Maybe it isn't about the environment, maybe it is more about dollars? Moving the set that stood shuttered during the strike to Los Angeles, where the series would film, was a sure way to keep the ambitious scale of Matlock's pilot for the coming series. Pick your reason: Which is the greener choice? I collaborated with Patricia Fass Palmer in Los Angeles, Joe Maziak the construction coordinator who built both Good Sam and Glamorous in Toronto, and John Weber and Frank Siracusa, the minds WORSHIP ROOM.
