transformation? The hospital's main entrance became a lux conference room. Yet, despite the changes, the footprint, windows, built-in lighting, rigging and many structural elements remained intact. After Glamorous season 1 wrapped, I thought that would be the end of this set's story. But then Matlock's pilot came along. And not only that, the sad cancelation of Glamorous. For the CBS reboot of Matlock, I repurposed the set for the third time, keeping the overall layout but reimagining and overhauling the aesthetic, covering the '80s mod with its black and chrome for a more conservative look with mid-wood tones and copper—a natural element no doubt reaped from the earth with the legal assistance of Matlock's Jacobson Moore. I even dropped large portions of the Glamorous set to focus only on what the Matlock pilot required. It would have been easy to get carried away given the ambition of the 60-page script. But, with only a meager eighteen days of prep, the Art Department focused our intentions. The staircase and elevators remained the anchor, but its fascia changed. The elevators adjusted to resemble what was happening at a tie-to-stage-set on location. The bullpen transformed into a major character's law office, keeping the director of photographers-friendly light, which became, yet again, a signature for the room. A Glamorous kitchen became a file room. A Glamorous workspace transformed into a law library. We replaced one of the three scenic backdrops to move away from the Hudson Yards aesthetic of Glamorous and into something more midtown for Matlock's classic and traditional tone. The transformation was so seamless that even Skye Marshall, a cast member from Good Sam and now cast in Matlock, did not recognize she was walking onto a variation of a set where she had already filmed thirteen episodes. From a supporting role in Good Sam's patient room one to second on the call sheet under Kathy Bates, HALLWAY. D. GOOD SAM MAIN HALLWAY E. GLAMOROUS MAIN HALLWAY F. MATLOCK MAIN HALLWAY. D F E
