Created by founding editor Michael Baugh, PERSPECTIVE was inspired by an earlier publication titled Trace, published by Local 876, the precursor to our current Guild. The first issues of PERSPECTIVE were much more a newsletter, rather than a journal featuring the work of designers and Art Departments. Twenty- eight pages long with a stapled centerfold, a plan of the future ADG offices was the largest graphic included in the issue, the minutes of the ADG Council was the longest article, and submissions by ADG staff and officers made up most ot the information shared in the inaugural issue. The work of designers, which would become the real focus of the journal, started out as content between these articles. The images on this page represent all the artwork included in the issue, and the captions were the only information about the works. But these few pictures were prescient of what would follow. The magazine has to date featured over 535 projects by designers from around the world—including nine later projects by the designers featured here—as well as many articles on awards, technology and film design history. The mission of PERSPECTIVE is to inform and educate, remaining continually relevant to the work of Guild members. It strives to document the history, technology and artistry of the profession, and to reveal how the imaginative creativity of these artists' work is achieved. A. THE FIRST MASTHEAD. B.
