N I N A R U S C I O is an Emmy-nominated Production Designer. Forty years ago, as a theatrical set designer, she came to Los Angeles to work for two weeks on a film and never left. Starting in commercials in Hollywood, she quickly learned, that, no matter how outrageous a request, "no" is never an answer. This early lesson shaped her inventive, can-do approach and her ability to move seamlessly between the big picture and the tiniest detail, toggling comfortably between genres and mediums. She designed indie films, bringing a poetic realism to Charles Burnett's The Annihilation of Fish, and crafting a surreal Americana for Alan Rudolph's Breakfast of Champions. She lent her talents as an Art Director to major studio action films, including A Rage in Harlem, Enemy of the State, Spy Game and Volcano. Among the many studio movies she designed are the colorful, high-energy worlds of Shawn Levy's early hits—Big Fat Liar, Just Married, and Cheaper by the Dozen. Following the birth of her daughter, she pivoted to television, designing all 11 seasons of the audacious series Shameless and the entire 6 season run of the raw crime family drama Animal Kingdom for John Wells Productions, a frequent and beloved creative partner. She built worlds for a dozen pilots, designed over two hundred hours of series TV, and collaborated with an almost equal number of directors. She received an Emmy nomination for her work on HBO Max's The Flight Attendant. She finds it funny and flattering how often people assume the worlds she designs are real locations— whether it's the fully immersive hospital in The Pitt, the five-bedroom mid-century indoor-outdoor Cody compound in Animal Kingdom, or the swoon-worthy Los Feliz home in Netflix's recent real estate drama No Good Deed.
