The design team, though small, was extraordinary. We approached each challenge with resourcefulness and intention. Houston, unlike Austin, is not a major production hub, and with leaner infrastructure, we often found ourselves solving problems in real time, designing and dressing simultaneously. While I would be wallpapering Hameed and Dallas's home, Art Director Zed Hamblin DiMenno was helming construction on the detention center and leading the scenic team on Mo's tunnel escape sequence. Leadman Samuel Howeth brought a strong construction background and, alongside gang boss Shane Ballou, often opted to build rather than source. From the custom stalls in the Mexico City sequence to the handcrafted Thanksgiving pergola, their approach brought a handmade intimacy and integrity to the work that aligned beautifully with the show's spirit.
