The kitchen played a significant role in the "behind-the-scenes" action, showing the hustle and bustle of the club while also providing a tragic backdrop for the murder Hub committed that got him sent to Hell in the first place. It was designed for efficiency and with Steadicam shots in mind. Lucky's office is upstairs from the main room and was built next to The Boxcar set on stage. It combines a mix of Northeast style with Southern accents. Merging the wood and brick of The Boxcar into a more elevated gangster aesthetic, highlighting fish-out-of-water Lucky attempting to acclimate to the new reality of Southern life in Landry, GA, as a straight shooter. You can take this Southie out of Boston, but you can't take the Red Sox out of Lucky: team swag featured heavily throughout. The story takes place in the fictional town of Landry, Georgia, in the Appalachian region. While location scouting south of Atlanta, I fell in love with Grantville, a town that encompassed all our ideals for Landry. It is warm, inviting, iconic, and has all the texture and history one could want. Additionally, it created an excellent contrast to the show's darker, scarier parts. When crafting main street, the Art Department focused on featuring Americana and pops of primary colors. Grantville also had the perfect exterior for The Boxcar club. It lives on the other side of a train tracks at the top of the main street. It features a brick facade with a western flair and served as the perfect backdrop to create this hero exterior set. The crew transformed this location into our club through the use of signage and graphics. Four-foot-tall vintage marquee letters lined the roof, accompanied by a vintage lightbox marquee above the doors and another lightbox with a marquee arrow mounted to the size of the building. Large-scale vinyl graphics were placed over the windows, and we swapped the doors and hardware to match the stage set. I loved hunting for fun vintage brass or antique bronze hardware to accent the eclectic vibe. E. THE BOXCAR INTERIOR. SKETCHUP MODEL BY XI YANG. F. & G. THE BOXCAR INTERIOR.
