For me, the most exciting aspect of IPDW is that it provides a forum for Production Designers around the world to share what fuels their artistic souls and inspires them for their next cinematic adventure. And often, by doing this, we realize how much we have in common. I think that there's a creative spirit that starts to reveal itself. I'm hoping this discussion will lead to an overall inspirational multi-faceted and multi-dimensional philosophy about what it is to production design as artists over the span of long careers. And hopefully, this is passed along to the next generations of PDs. Estefanía Larraín PDC Member (Chile) A Fantastic Woman "IPDW is relevant precisely because Production Designers' work is still little known or understood." There's great value in knowing your community and feeling part of it. The PDC has connected a group which used to have scarce opportunities to collaborate together and to get to know each other. Championing camaraderie and collaboration, the PDC's initiatives have supported the exchange of ideas and knowledge. On that note, IPDW is relevant precisely because Production Designers' work is still little known or understood–even within film crews. Sharing our craft with colleagues and the Clara Notari PDC Member (Spain) Wild Tales "The ideas which the PDC leads are so creative that they are always anticipating my own desires." The PDC has succeeded at gathering Production Designers and students from around the world in order to establish new communication links. By embracing this, it has notably motivated us to reflect on our profession and act in new ways that support it. The ideas which the PDC leads are so creative that they're always anticipating my own desires. Each time that Production Designers come together, there's a sense of community which transcends nationalities and languages. It invites us to share experiences, conversations, exchange of opinions and happily appreciate what each one of us shares with the rest of the group. However, our profession remains to be uncomprehended by many. Through initiatives such as IPDW, the Collective doesn't only encourage this conversation within our department, but it brings together the whole filmmaking community, including the audience. audience is important because it makes visible an essential part of filmmaking. To know about Production Design not only improves working conditions and gives an appropriate perception of our job, but it also educates audience members to develop a critical point of view. A.
