just been craned into position behind a curtain of crystals. Snow effects and ice frosting were being applied. And then came the final hurdle: the floor. The entire interior set was designed to sit atop a gleaming ice floor—a single poured plane of tinted translucent resin. "We're out of resin," I was told flatly. "There's none left in the country. We bought every barrel." I laughed. Then realized they weren't joking. The production was out of time, out of resin and four days from shooting. Cue one last cinematic rescue: SFX supervisor Dan Sudick had an idea. High-end surfboards use a specialty resin that might match our material. After dozens of phone calls, we secured the only eleven barrels available in the country—just enough to pour the floor. That weekend, the resin floor was cast. When the set lighting hit it the following morning, the aquamarine glint matched the earliest concept art. On the first day of filming, I stood on that floor next to Dave and Alex. The air in the space shimmered with cold light. The crystals stood tall and radiant. Our Fortress had arrived. And then, through a break in the crystals, I saw him: David Corenswet in full cape and suit, stepping into our Fortress of Solitude. That's the moment. That's why we do it. You chase this impossible vision for months, maybe years—juggling research, materials, labor, emotion— and suddenly it crystallizes. The story, the space, the iconography. It all aligns. And you soar.
