AROUND AEA

AEA's 100th
Delegate Assembly
In May, nearly 600 Arizona educators came together to
debate, build community, and set the direction for our
statewide union at the 100th Annual Delegate Assembly
(DA).
During the first night of DA, delegates heard keynote
remarks from Attorney General Kris Mayes, who was fresh
off a major court victory that protects federal funding for
low-income and homeless students.
DA attendees made history this year by electing
Margaret Chaney as the first Black woman to serve as
an AEA officer. Treasurer Chaney is a longtime educator
and leader in the Tucson Education Association. She joins
President Marisol Garcia and Vice President Angela
Philpot as AEA's elected leadership team for 2025-2028.
